WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT
OUR TANDEM FLIGHTS
INCREDIBLE flying experience! The flight exceeded all our expectations. The pilots were professional and created an amazing experience for us! Pete was unbelievable as a pilot and I personally thoroughly enjoyed flying with him. There is no better way to take in the Cape Town sights! Must do when you are in town.

ABOUT TANDEM PARAGLIDING
Where does Wallendair operate tandem flights from?
In Cape Town, we fly from SIGNAL HILL and LIONS HEAD in Cape Town
In Garden Route, we fly from Wilderness, Map of Africa and Sedgefield
We also fly Cross Country from PORTERVILLE
Please contact us directly if you would like to fly from one of these sites
How does it work?
We use a larger canopy designed to carry the weight of two people. Each person has their own harness, and the passenger and instructor are connected together with spreader bars. The Tandem instructor sits in the back and the passenger sits in front. We organize our equipment and do a simulation before our actual launch. The instructor double checks your buckles and straps, clips you in, and we turn and wait for a nice launch cycle. When the wind is right we build energy by running together as the wing comes overhead into the flying position. We run with the wing as we are lifted of the ground, up, up, and away!
How long does a Paragliding flight last?
Tandem paragliding flights vary in length depending on the weather and wind conditions.
On average, they last between 8 – 20 minutes.
If you have a short flight because of weather conditions, we would be happy to discount your next flight.
Is paragliding dangerous?
Just like driving a car, it can either be done safely or dangerously. So too, a paraglider can be flown safely or dangerously. If one sticks to the safety parameters, it’s as simple as crossing the road safely. As with anything in life we reduce the risk by putting certain checks in place, and in paragliding safety revolves around equipment, weather and pilot aptitude. Besides the fact that paragliding equipment is made to stringent, international standards we also service our gear regularly according to manufacturer specifications. We choose what weather conditions we fly in by consulting the weather forecast on Apps like Windfinder and Windguru and we generally look for wind direction, wind strength, wind gradient and topography amongst other things. Pilot testing and licensing are rigorous and their currency requirements are as comprehensive as one would expect from other aviation disciplines.
What safety precautions do you take?
Upon arrival, at check in, you will receive a full briefing regarding what to expect.
Safety precautions and equipment include helmets and harnesses with back protection.
Our pilots complete careful preflight checks before every takeoff.
You can rest assured you are in good hands, with our very experienced pilots.
What if I have a fear of heights
Because we’re pretty much earth-bound beings there’s always the fear of the unknown. Not knowing what to expect can make paragliding seem scary but it’s actually a very peaceful experience.
There is no sensation of falling with Paragliding launches and flights. After being airborne for a few seconds you will realize the peace that comes from floating like a bird with the wind in your face.
When I went on my first flight I was struck by how quiet and peaceful everything became once we lifted off the ground.
Your safety is always our primary concern. Paragliding like any form of flight, has inherent dangers. But much like driving a car, experience and training is key. All our pilots are SAHPA certified and TFI (Tandem Flight Instructor) licensed. You are in safe and very experienced hands.
When going for an instructional tandem flight you can trust our pilots as you would trust the pilot of a 747 Boeing. Their qualification, weather knowledge and experience should put your mind at ease.
Who can and can’t fly? And Why?
Minimum Weight: 20kg
Children need to weight more than 20kg and need parental consent
Maximum Weight: 120 kg
If you weigh less than 120kg you are eligible for a tandem paragliding experience.
How do I know if you are flying that day?
It is advisable to contact our office an hour before your scheduled flight to check on the weather conditions and to confim your flight time and flight site.
How do I dress for my Tandem paragliding flight?
Wear comfortable clothes e.g. jeans/pants or shorts and a t-shirt or sweatshirt.
You will be running for launch and landing so VERY IMPORTANT please wear well-fitting, lace-up type shoes, with no heels, hooks or snag points.
And don’t forget your facemask and sunscreen.
